Case Study

Known as The Century Project at St. Mary’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center in Grand Junction, CO, the multi-phase project included construction of a new 12-story patient tower and reconfiguration and renovation of existing hospital space. Approximately 440,000 square feet of new space was added with 76,000 square feet of space being renovated.

More than 11,000 square feet of Citadel Envelope 2000® Rout & Return (RR) System metal composite material (MCM) panels were utilized on curved surfaces including entrance canopies and interior and exterior column covers. The panels were finished in Silver Metallic.

Design for the project was provided by Perkins + Will, Minneapolis, MN. The design team sought to complement the existing hospital- as well as the stunning mesas in the surrounding landscape- while establishing an advanced, forward-looking image.

According to Rick Hintz, Perkins + Will principal and market sector leader, the Citadel composite wall panels provided exceptional flatness, light weight, excellent strength-to-weight ratio and excellent formability for the radius applications.

Fabrication and installation of the Citadel panels was done by Douglass Colony Group, Commerce City, CO.
